Judith Fox

Judith Fox was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey and attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in 1976, and earned a BA from Yale University in 1978. She also attended classes at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, France in 1979 and earned an MFA from New York University in 1983. She was awarded a John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation fellowship in 2006. Among her completed work is her most well-known fired clay sculptures of nude children. These are painted with casein paint in order to make them appear more realistic. Her purpose in sculpting child nudes is to address their sexuality while her adult nudes are reflective of her deep-rooted interest in feminist problems. She works in New York where she is represented by PPOW Gallery and Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac in Europe. Fox studied sculpture at Yale and Skowhegan and graduated from the Institute of Fine Arts, NYU with a Masters in Art History. She began showing her work in the East Village in 1985, and since that time her work has appeared in many private and public art exhibitions through the United States and in Europe. In addition, she has lectured at many schools and museums. In addition to her commendable educational diplomas and degrees, she received two NEA grants along with the "Anonymous Was a Woman" foundation. She holds the position as fellow at Yaddo and the MacDowell Colony as well as the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation (2006).
