Judith Light

Judith Light is one of many actresses who began their careers as soap stars. Though her first role was that of Karen Wolek on One Life to Live, she is best remembered in her role as Angela Bower on Who's the Boss, an evening sitcom where she played boss to housekeeper Tony Micelli played by Tony Danza. The show was quite popular and ran for eight seasons before being cancelled. Some of the other roles she has played since the cancellation of Who's the Boss include the following: • Played with Rick Schroeder as a suffocating mother in "Too close to Home" (1997) • Played Dr. Vivian Bearing on WIT (2000) • Since 2002 she has had a recurring role as Judge Elizbeth Donnelly on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit • Recurring role in Ugly Betty as Claire Meade, wife of Bradford Meade and mother of Daniel and Alexis Meade. She will begin a full-time role on the show when it opens its second season. • Appeared in cartoon form in Family Guy as herself obsessed with Tony Danza. • Recent guest appearance on Twenty Good Years. • Played the mother of Ryan White in a 1989 television biography • Former spokesperson for Proactiv Solution, an anti-acne product that has also included pop singer, Jessica Simpson There have been rumors that Light may be hosting a new reality show. If the show becomes live, it will focus on adolescent beauty pageants. In her personal life, Light is a gay rights activist. She also helped the actor who played her son in Who's the Boss learn to handle the knowledge that he was gay. She has also been involved in many different LGBT charities and their work and was a speaker at the 1993 March on Washington. In addition, she is very active as an AIDS activist. Like many television and movie personalities, Light's work extends beyond that of her professional career. With her involvement in the gay community and her work as an activist for AIDS, she is touching on areas many of us fear to tread. The activities in which Light participates not only helps the world in general but assists in her roles within the television community, giving her more of an opportunity to reach her fans through the work she does outside of movies and television. In spite of her many successes as an actress, Light considers her biggest achievements to be her fight against AIDS and sexual discrimination. Her love for the performing arts began when she attended summer camp when she was 12 years old. After she was encouraged by her high school drama teacher to attend Carnegie Mellon University, she landed a role in the stage production of "A Doll's House" in the mid 70s. Her successes, however, didn't prevent her from being poor, having to living sometimes on as little a ten dollars per week. Instead of letting it get her down, she used it as a tool to increase her determination not only to act but as a way to fight all forms of bigotry. .
